With the growing number of travelers choosing to backpack through Europe, there are many people who find themselves with questions about an adventure like this. One of the most predominant questions that I hear from people heading to Europe is if they should bring their cell phone with them? Well the answer to that question is, “it depends.”
Cell phones in the United States do not operate without a GSM (Global System For Mobile Communication). The best way to get a GSM phone for making your calls when backpacking through Europe, is to buy one before you depart. It is a good idea to do this a few weeks before you plan on arriving in Europe. That way you are familiar with how to use and the limitations of this kind of phone.
